A mezzotint by Samuel William Reynolds (1773–1835) of a portrait of Thomas Girtin by John Opie (1761–1807) is published by John Girtin (1773–1821) (see print after TG1929).
Lettered below image with production details: 'Painted by John Opie Esqr. R.A. / Engraved by S.W. Reynolds. / London: Pubd. May 16. 1817, by J. Girtin, Engraver, Printer &c No.25 Old Compton Street, 3 doors from Princes Street, Soho.', and 'Portrait of the late extraordinary Artist, / Thomas Girtin, / Natus Feb. 18. 1775 Obit Nov. 9. 1802.', and a dedication 'To Sir George Beaumont Bart / One of his earliest Patrons. This print is with permission respectfully dedicated by his very obliged & grateful Servt. JOHN GIRTIN. / J. Girtin in the recent fire in Broad Strt. having lost all his property, excepting some prints &c which with this portrait of his late Brother, he respectfully offers to a liberal Public.'
Lettered on coats of arms with the family motto: 'Erectus Non Elatus' (Proud but not Arrogant). The name 'Thomas Girtin' shaded with horizontal lines within and outside the letters, and 'John Girtin' shaded with vertical lines within the letters.

A proof of Caernarvon Castle, North Wales (see print after TG1309), engraved by William Bernard Cooke (1778–1855) ‘From a Drawing in the Possession of H. Edridge’ (TG1309) is dated 1817, but it will not be published until 1821 (British Museum, London (1873,1213.756)).
