About this Work
This watercolour has only been seen in public once, when it was sold at auction in 1965 (Exhibitions: Christie’s, 13 July 1965, lot 114). The sale catalogue did not include an image and it is therefore not possible to comment on the attribution of the work. However, the title does not suggest that the composition was based on a sketch made from life; a working windmill could never be surrounded by trees!
