Thomas Thane (1782 - 1846)
Thomas Thane (1782–1846) was a dealer and collector of prints and drawings whose father, John Thane (unknown dates), appears to have bought works at Girtin’s posthumous sale in 1803 (Exhibition: Christie’s, 1 June 1803). Thomas was active at the sale of the collection of Dr Thomas Monro (1759–1833) in 1833, though none of Girtin’s works were included in the extensive series of auctions held after his death in 1846 (Sotheby’s, 2–3 April 1846; Sotheby’s, 25–30 May 1846; Sotheby’s 16–20 June 1846).
