George Selby (1724–1804), of Twizel House in Northumberland, commissioned from Girtin a fine watercolour, Bamburgh Castle, from the Village (TG1459). The drawing, which is signed and dated 1797, retains its original mount and frame. Family tradition has it that Girtin stayed with Selby at Twizel on his 1796 tour of Yorkshire and the North East, though this cannot be confirmed.
