Revd Alexander Dyce (1798 - 1869)
Revd Alexander Dyce (1798–1869) was an eminent Shakespearean scholar who bequeathed his extensive collection of drawings to the South Kensington Museum in 1869 (from 1899 the Victoria and Albert Museum). However, the attributions of many watercolours said to have been painted by Girtin, such as River Scene, with Boats (TG1400) and The Abbey Mill, near Knaresborough (see TG1672 fig 1), have been questioned.
